A one design boat evolved from the Prout Brothers' Cougar Mark I, the
Mark III is biger, faster, and easier to handle. Though dimensions are
closely controlled, class rules are flexible as to materials. Newer boats
are all fiberglass.

The Cougar contained many modern design features; fully battened mainsail, rotating mast, roller furling forespar with kick-up centerboards and rudders. The solid deck allowed for a maximum daysailing crew of eight, a fast family boat!
